CLIENT JOURNEY: Two Dads and Their Independent Adoption Story

We are beyond thrilled to congratulate our clients Robyé and Matthew on the adoption of their daughter, Mia.

FPS attorney Matt Purcell and senior paralegal Dorinda Gregory began working with the couple last year, after traditional routes along the adoption journey led to detours for the twosome, self-described “simple folk” who yearned for a child to raise and love.

The term “independent adoption” means the adoption of a child through an Adoption Service Provider.  In this type of adoption, the California Department of Social Services is neither a party to nor joins in the adoption request, but provides input by means of an investigation and issues a report. No other agencies are involved. Matt, Dorinda, and other FPS professionals worked closely with Robyé, Matthew and Mia’s birthparents to navigate the paper trail and emotional preparations for the child’s birth and ultimate adoption.

We didn’t mind the “freak out calls” from our special clients; who could blame this loving couple for some extra emotion with a side of nervousness. “We are totally indebted to you all,” said Robyé, upon conclusion of the recent courtroom proceedings.

It was truly our honor to be part of this very special client journey. Congratulations to the new dads and sweet Mia!
